Artist Feature: Martyn

In a lot of cases you might be a little disapointed finding out that his music either sounds like a copy of the reference or you think: have I missed anything?
In Martyns case you will soon discover his love for the roots of dance music. But he managed to transport this feeling into different genres: Dubstep and Drum and Bass.
It was in 1995 when Martyn Deykers got in touch with Drum and Bass. A little later he and his homies started the Red Zone nights in Eindhoven, which over the past 11 years developed to one of the most influential Broken Beats Event in the Netherlands.

Martyn understood quickly, that the one way road of rave in your face Drum and Bass production will not be his choice. In 2005 the world seemed to be ready for the Martyn Sound. His releases on Play:music and Marcus Intalex Revolve:r imprint introduced him to an international audience. The consequence of these two releases was, that Martyn was tagged as a promising newcomer at BBC 1xtra’s Best of 2005 Chart. Two years later (2007) his 12” Broken / Shadowcasting (Revolve:r) got lots of support from the four to the floor VIP camp: Ricardo Villalobos, Laurent Garnier, Âme, Luciano, Underground Resistance to name only a few, were infected by the dutch talent.
Also remixing seems to be a very important thing to Martyn:
I don’t just throw all the samples over a beat of mine, I like to rewrite the tracks completely. In most cases I’d like to pick that essence of the original track and write a new track around it. (quote taken from WIRE Mag Feb 2009)
His reinterpretations for Warps Flying Lotus, Trg , or the legendary Shut up and Dance show this attitude clearly and make Martyn one of Dubsteps most wanted remixers.

Teaming up with his old friend Erosie , Martyn started his own label 3024 Records in 2007. After having released a couple of 12“es on 3024, Martyn will release his debut Album Great Length in Spring 2009.
