Once again, Open Source highlights how festivals can be both diverse and cohesive, bringing together a range of genres, from pop to indie rock, hip hop to free-spirited electronics, as well various newcomers from all sorts of stylistic niches.
The German indie rock band Tocotronic will introduce their new album Die Unendlichkeit. And Cigarettes After Sex from El Paso, Texas will deliver pop ambient with an edge. For the first time, American musician, singer-songwriter and producer Joan as Police Woman performs at the racecourse venue in Düsseldorf, playing her mix of jazz, folk and pop. Jazz is omnipresent in a way. On the Carhartt WIP stage US-American avant-electronic producer Laurel Halo will seed it between her electronic grooves. And Kamaal Williams from the UK will play him in pure form.
Additionally, rap border-crosser Mykki Blanco will play one of his spoken word punk shows, and for fans of cerebral German hip hop, the Berlin based rap crew Zugezogen Maskulin performs. Also: local heroes DJ Normal 4 & Bufiman, Düsseldorf's most interesting electronic newcomers, are playing live together for the first time. They will play at the new NTS floor, where also young global talents like Swan Meat or Zozo perform.
If you want to know what else is happening, take a look the full program. Or show up and be surprised.
