“It’s not that common in the skateboard world that a journalist takes the time to do serious research about things for a report. Maybe Sébastien does… I think I remember Sébastien did some kind of journalism school, beside this he was skating in the south of France. Then of course he collaborated with the freshly born skate magazines in France, besides the local newspaper…
Today, things evolved in a logic way and is now a journalist and collaborate with skate magazines and newspapers… But instead of the south of France he is publishing reports around the world and lives between Marseilles and L.A.
In skateboarding, even though there’s no such thing as “skateboard journalism” – at best, you’re just a skate-nerd with a good memory – his main “fields of research” are music and history (all the histories, even though he’s unapolegetically stuck in the ’90s). You can read his blurbs almost every month in Skateboarder, Kingpin, Sugar beside some more traditional publications like Libération or L’Equipe.”

What questions can you ask a guy to get to know him? We set up a questionnaire to find out his 10 favorites:
1. The German poetry thing in the editor’s cut of 1st And Hope.
2. Even if “La mauvaise herbe” match skateboarding word for word, ‘Georges Brassens’ (album: Les Copains D’abord) at the end of a Cliché video (Freedom Fries).
3. Hugo Liard I’m sure must have skated on Trust. No?
4. In Latin: the “Homosexualus Discothecus” song in Coluche/Michel Serrault’s part, “2 heures moins le quart avant Jesus Christ”.
5. I wish somebody used the version of “The Trooper” (Iron Maiden) by the guy who does it with hand-farts on.
6. Some Swiss hip-hop band in an old 411, on Chany’s part.
7. The cover song of “Bei Mir Bist du Schön” (Andrew Sisters), Strongest of the Strange intro. Well, just the chorus is in german but I love the original tune.

1. Rayhound. RIP. 76 years-old dude who lived his last years in his Greyhound bus (internet -equipped), driving all over America.
2. Manny Jimenez. Got out of his Mexican gang in LA to start his talent agency with former gang members. Coolissimo cholo ever.
3. Claude Garrigues. A Marseille taxi driver who’s also an Elvis impersonator (Elvis at the end. And he doesn’t speak English, which hurts). Totally random, out there dude.
4. Dedon Kamathi. A former Black Panther, he’s now the president of the Black Surfers Association.
5. Antonio Alvarez. A retired Mexican wrestler, he’s the official tailor for alll of LA’s Lucha Libre stars.
6. Wally Fanena. Lost one arm and one leg as a soldier in Irak and is just learning to surf again. Super-powered mind.
7. Leonard Knight. A 70-years old something who’s been painting the hill he squats in California with religious slogans. Trippy.
8. Mikey Dread. The veteran selector of Channel One sound system in London, nah giving up stacking boxes of bass. Cool and respected, I got to go briefly on the road with him.
9. Coccinelle. The first-ever operated transsexual in France, know for the spectacle Cherchez La Femme. He/she spent the remaining of his/ her life in Marseille.
10. Betty & Elton White : an old/young, black/white couple who was singing sex songs in bathing suits on the Venice boardwalk. Betty died in 2004.
Since I’ll never get to do it in my page or my blog for obvious people-won’t-care reasons, let me pick my own 10 favorite boards/board graphics on boards that I’ve had.
1. Matt Hensley church glass. Should have thought before the tattoo though. Became a bit too popular.
2. Toy Machine barley smokers
3. Illuminati Ricky Oyola
4. Capital Pepe Martinez sleeping Mexican. Wait, was that racist? Oh well. One of the few 8’‘ wide in 1995.
5. Some super-skinny mad Circle that Pontus gave me in SF.
6. Chocolate Paulo Diaz street series, in retrospect. Cause when I got it I sanded off the graphics and drew some hand doing the horns. What a moron.
7. Zoo York Peter Bici boat.
8. Antihero logo that I gave away to a kid in Kosovo but really regretted it after ha ha.
9. Blockhead Hard Times.
10. A green Stereo that LuyPa sold me at le Dome in 1994. Seriously, best board ever.
