Sad news travels fast: Düsseldorf-based festival Open Source will hold its last edition in two weeks after 13 vibrant, successful years. Instead of crying about it, we want to say thank you to the hosts for a great, adventurous, multifaceted festival that managed to unite different music styles under one roof – like this year, where German pop music, Los Angeles funk and avant-garde entertainment will come together.
On the Mainstage: Austrian tragic-pop star SOHN brings melancholia and Swiss singer-songerwriter Faber seduces with edgy songwriting. Furthermore, Dresden-based pop band Woods of Birnam introduce their latest album Grace and Belgian rapper BALOJI drops sharp bars.
The Carhartt WIP stage will bring lots of different musical worlds together. Headlining is the US-American producer of experimental electronic music Yves Tumor, whose minimalistic concerts play with rock and pop clichés in a refreshing, discordant way. For pure funk from outer space, DāM-FunK will come by and plays the keytar. Also, the psychedelic pop stoners Peaking Lights and the Düsseldorf based post-industrial wavers Toresch will perform.
For those who seek for a long hot sweaty dance, the Radio floor is the place to be. The Peaking Lights will spin records as well as producer Tolouse Low Trax, young local pop musician Lucas Croon, Cystallmess from Paris and Bambii from Canada. For the finale, the infamous duo Lena Willikens & Vladimir Ivkovic will bring their down-pitched trance grooves to the race course venue.
As ever, it’s a delicately curated festival line-up, that will be complemented by a market and another stage that features young up-and-coming local talents. Come by to say goodbye to the only real festival Düsseldorf ever had.
