Each season, Carhartt WIP releases a selection of shirt jackets, created from mid-to-heavyweight fabrics, such as denim, corduroy, or cotton canvas.
The humble shirt jacket – or overshirt – is a decidedly versatile garment, capable of being worn as a standalone outer layer during the warmer months and as a robust mid-layer during the fall and winter. For its Fall/Winter collections, Carhartt WIP shirt jackets will also often feature a padded lining, offering additional warmth.
The designs draw from various reference points, ranging from minimal iterations to archetypal woolen flannel shirts. The Salinac and Reno Shirt Jackets, for example, both reference classic work shirts, while the Whitsome Shirt Jacket’s silhouette and pocket configuration evokes a classic military BDU style.
Typically, all shirt jackets feature multiple pockets, further adding to the functional, everyday nature of these items, and are finished with subtle labeling or branding.
