The Crate Soul Pressure nights have been organised by Keyser & Shuriken as known as the Crate Soul Brothers since 2002. Their love for good, soulful music and old school breaks has driven them in the last decade to promote the culture of sonic delights in Budapest and wherever they dj around Europe.
The list of guest djs and performers at Crate Soul Pressure nights include The Diesler Live Experience, Quantic, Freddie Cruger a.k.a. Red Astaire, Russ Dewbury, Tom Wieland, Eddy & Dus, Karl Injex, Dom Servini and DJ Monk-One among others.
DJ Vadim, the John Coltrane of Hip Hop has been a very busy bee of late. DJing and touring his group One Self, remixing Fat Freddy’s Drop, Gangstarr, Ojos de Brujo, Alice Russell, reediting Prince, Al Green, Ann Peebles… and now delivering his 5th and latest DJ Vadim LP (debut for BBE) which he considers as being “by far my most concise, precise and best work to date”.
The Sound Catcher is unpredictable with touches of disco and tubby-esque dub moments, varied with brushes of blues, soul and rap, urban grime bedlam with double time bounce and ambitious combining so many influences and yet making it feel like they all fit.
Nonetheless, the soundsystem is running through your town and in the forefront we have – DJ Vadim. The man not content with causing seismic floor shaking DJ sets to promote his solo LPs, Vadim has been the creative lead behind many collaboratives of like-minded souls – from the early days of Russian Percussion where he introduced to us the jaw breaking killer kela and Scratch Perverts’ Mr Thing he has proceeded to bring us the soulful touch of John Ellis who became a central member of Cinematic Orchestra, then One Self (DJ Vadim, Yarah Bravo and Blu Rum 13 accompanied by DJ Woody and Bongo Pete) to the present day with the new collective to present the SoundCatcher LP.
Heavily inspired by the Jamaican/English culture of soundsystems like goodtimes’ (Norman Jay), rap attack, trojan and channel one, DJ Vadim captures a similar temperament in the new show where nothing less than crowd upheaval is expected. Just like his DJ sets where Marvin Gaye is blended back to back with Gangstarr and then Samba into Gregory Isaacs, the new show mixes a multitude of musical elements and moods together seamlessly.
Belleruche are a new signing to Tru Thoughts Records. Described as handmade hip hop blues soul, like Sarah Vaughan, Django Reinhardt and Cut Chemist stuck in a lift with Russian beer and a sampler. If you like Lamb and Portishead then Belleruche will be right up your street, it’s pure soulful Jazz with scratches aplenty. Their new album Turntable Soul Music comprises of songs inspired by rum induced nights, many of which have been written in train carriages, dubious minicabs and pub backrooms around the UK.
The threesome is made up of Kathrin deBoer (vocals), Ricky Fabulous (guitar) and DJ Modest (decks). The band was formed after Ricky and Modest, who played bizarre turntable and guitar sets in London bars, bumped in to Kathrin in the market one day. She did some singing over a cup of tea with the pair and Belleruche was formed.
