Hello everyone,
There’s always somebody who takes the part of writing a tour story after a roadtrip and I love to do that because it takes me back to the good times.
Let’s start in the very beginning with getting an email from our team manager Mike. He wrote something like “Ok guys it’s official, we’re going to hit the the road for the Ravage Tour 2009 on the Canary Islands.” I was like “Oh awesome another Ravage Tour” and then I was like “Whaaaaaaaat? Canary Islands? With friends and our bikes?”
I’ve been just as psyched as everyone else of the team and I was ready to go. Well a couple weeks went by and suddenly we were sitting all in a plane flying out of the rain, snow and cold into the sun. Canary Islands get ready for some action, here we come! As usual Mike Emde did an amazing job with organizing everything for us having a memorable time. I remember the first Ravage Roadtrip in 2004 I was on and its still my favourite of all roadtrips i’ve ever been on. So this time the crew changed a bit, Stevan Lantschner, Bruno Hoffman, Benny Paulsen, Barry Kohne, Owain Glegg, Hannu Cools, Arthur Dietrich, Dominik Wrobel (film), Georg Oberlechner (photo), Andy Zeiss, Mike Emde (Carhartt TM), Ben Hennon (special guest) and myself, made the team. A really nice guy named Christian who owned a surf/skateshop on the island and also a kind of hostel, made us have a really cool place to stay. Ehm, wait a really cool place? We had the whole house for us, a pool in the backyard, palms and a huge kitchen, is that getting any better? Nope! Just everything was planed out without having a plan haha. With our 2 rental cars it hasn’t been a big deal to move around besides discovering the island with the bikes as much as possible. We’ve been on the streets everyday finding new spots to ride but at this point it wouldn’t make any sense to talk about the riding that went down, just check out the video soon, you’ll see. Nobody of us has been on the Canary Islands before and so nobody knew what the island had to offer. Well it’s been in our hands where we go and what we’ll find. So there has been a lot concrete skateparks for this small islands and tons of street spots. We’ve made the best out of every spot and some of us have been really creative on things you usually don’t even look at. One of the highlights has been the opening of a real nice Carhartt Store in the middle of the city center. I remember having a fun time over there with everyone and the party has been real liquid haha. It’s been a cool feeling to get back to the house every night, it felt like we live there and we’re all room mates. thanks to Christian for letting us stay there, its been amazing with no breakfast times or checkout times. We even filmed a Stevan Lantschner MTV cribs in that house with Chuck Norris (Andy Zeiss) taking care of business or Kirk Hammett (Mike Emde) who’s kicking ass, we had them all haha. You’ll find the videoclip here soon. So much good things happened, they won’t all fit in here so look forward to see the final result in the woozy/dominik wrobel edit. The trip has been so good and I can’t wait to go on tour with Carhartt again sometime soon. the crew has been perfect and the idea of going to the canary islands just amazing. Big special thanks to Carhartt for making another memorable adventure possible for us. Sunshine, palms, ocean, beach and a couple of dudes with little kids bikes in the middle of that, can it be more ackward and cool at the same time?! Thanks TM mike for all your hard work to make us happy and hey it worked out more than just fine, to Christian for the hostel and the freedom to do whatever we want in there, to the cool dudes of the Carhartt Store in las palmas for the good times. Also thanks to Junhee for the tasty dinner he invited us to and last but not least thanks to the crew who made this a good time for each other.
Cheers,
Paddy Gross.
