The London based vocalist and producer GAIKA has announced his debut tour dates in the Far East, with shows announced in Japan, Korea and beyond . Drawing from hip hop, dancehall and soul, the newly Warp Records signed Brixton-born vocalist and producer is one of the most visionary voices confronting today’s racial politics and a visceral product of contemporary London. Gaika has risen through the ranks – from self released tapes to Warp Records – in little more than a year. His dystopian futuristic sound was first introduced on his Machine mixtape, subsequently followed by his internationally acclaimed Security tape. In late 2016 he published with SPAGHETTO his first EP for Warp. Each release is dark yet melodic, experimental yet catchy. While drawing strongly from his Brixton upbringing and his Jamaican and Grenadian heritage, GAIKA's sound is ultimately expansive, seamlessly weaving musical motifs, vocal flows and slangs of UK, US and Caribbean music. As a lyricist, GAIKA shares stories encompassing criminal braggadocio and inflated self-worth, desire, and heartfelt tales of grief and lost love, all re-imagined through a sonic minimalism that dissolves into abstract and dreamlike proportions.
As both a vocalist and producer, GAIKA is as uncompromising in his politics as his sonics, intent on expanding and exploring the ideas of what contemporary black British music is. Now he travels East for the first time in order to debut with his wild, arty and uncompromising live shows in China, Japan and Korea.
