Cologne: Dez Andrés all night long
- Date published
Give him two turntables, a mixing desk, a bunch of records from all styles, some water, a towel, and every now and then a happy cigarette: the former DJ of J Dilla's legendary hip hop crew Slum Village will scratch, mix, and juggle house, cumbia, jazz, funk, soul, disco, latin, and any other danceable rhythm as if there were no tomorrow. Once the Detroit house and hip hop don met Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann while working at the Buy-Rite Records store. In 1997 he released his first EP on Moodymann's KDJ label. It has been followed by three albums for KDJ's sister label Mahogani Music. In 2012 Andrés launched his own label La Vida. With the first release New For U he instantly scored a world-wide loop house club banger that made him famose beyond the hip hop scene. Next Wednesday he performs a rare solo show in Cologne at the cozy club Roxy. You can arrive whenever you like: he will spin black wax non-stop until the early morning!
