"It's a family affair, a labor of love," US American musician Devendra Banhart commented after his Week-End Fest appearance in 2017. It was a neat summation of the Cologne-based festival, which has operated for the past decade without supporting acts or big headliners. Instead, year on year, it has shown what is possible if you ignore popular trends and cheap tour offers. This year sees the return of the heterogeneous three day festival, which will showcase an array of styles from pop to diasporic grooves, hip-hop to jazz.
The line-up includes renowned artists like Brazilian singer, guitarist, and songwriter Gilberto Gil, “Ethio-jazz” legend Mulatu Astatke, and American synth composer Suzanne Ciani. In addition, Italian electronic producer Caterina Barbieri, Turkish DJ and musician Anadol, and UK rapper Flohio will all perform, as part of a multifaceted program, full of stylistic twists that rail against the usual monocultural programming of festivals. Made for open-minded music lovers, brought to you with the help of Carhartt WIP.
