One of them is taking place by the end of this week in Copenhagen's Jazzhouse - a long standing venue that constantly explores new shapes of jazz. To categorize the music of the L.I.E.S. artists Terekke, Torn Hawk and Beau Wanzer as jazz would go a little too far but still: their sound is nothing else then a response to the signs of the times and jazz legends like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane or Thelonious Monk did nothing else, too. The music of the sound producer and video artist Luke Wyatt aka Torn Hawk is difficult to categorize - the man from New York that is currently based in Berlin melts live guitar playing, drum machines, oblique synths and layers of acid into a deep sonically sensation. In contrast the sound of the mysterious artist Beau Wanzer unites the atmosphere of early industrial, minimal synth and the perplexing spirit of electro with touching vocals that remind on the singing of Damon Edge at his peak. In comparison to both the also Berlin based producer Terekke delivers the most accessible sound. With striking beats, exquisite samples like jazzy organ tones and odd in-between house/techno grooves he seduces dancers that are willing to move adventurous. Overall the three L.I.E.S. artists will perform a kind of jazz that might not considered as such today but maybe will in a not so far future.
