Needless to say: the place of action is once again the super charming night club King Georg – Colognes melting pot of adventurous sounds of all kinds.
On Saturday the Canadian multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Krgovich stops by to play his only pan-European show and to DJ all night long. As a live performer the 28 year-old songwriter is famous for chamber Pop with an edge. His entangled musical universe comprised sweat vocal melodies, thrilling layers of analog synths, slinky guitar licks, and super tight rhythms. As a DJ he likes to play the music that inspires him to explore the endless possibilities of Pop. So be ready for some exceptional songs from bands such as the legendary New Wavers Prefab Sprout or the Scottish Folk Ambient pioneers The Blue Nile.
On Sunday another young fellow that likes to swim heartfelt against the tide enters the little stage of King Georg. His name is Kurt Vile and he comes around to introduce his longplayer Smoke Ring For My Halo – a colourful record that combines the lyrical deepness of such heroes like Leonard Cohen or Nick Drake with unorthodox songwriting structures of such music renovators like Suicide, J Mascis, or Animal Collective. A staggering way of exploring the limits of Pop that already caused him supporters like Kim Gordon of the terrific experimental rockers Sonic Youth.
So if you are from Cologne or near by and you love mind-expanding music there are no ifs and buts: this weekend King Georg is the place to be!
