The people of Cologne and all those who visit the town this weekend got the chance to do so. Because at club King Georg a small part of the north American West Coast music counterculture will perform live.
With Woom one of he most exciting young bands come around to deliver their definition of heartbreaking Lo-Fi Pop. Their music accomplishs the quiet radicalism of Young Marble Giants, the devastating simplicity of early Velvet Underground, and the turbulent joy of contemporaries like Animal Collective. Their upcoming debut longplayer Muu’s Way, out this summer on Ba Da Bing, is an intensely honest record. Beneath its incredibly detailed DIY production brims a wild, uncontainable energy. Skittering beats, deep-diving bass, chorusing frogs, crumbling guitars and crackling voices swarm around songs that are at once heart-felt and emotionally enigmatic. It is an album of elemental affection and confident provocation – just like their concerts are.
Performance-Art meets Techno: the second star of the night is Fancie, a young chanteuse who seduce you with her incredible touching vibrant voice. Stylistically she croons Jazz, hums Folk, spirituals, and campfire sing-alongs – all to exceptionally tight arrangements. Imagine Joni Mitchell goes electronic to create a mystic pool of New Wave, Hip Hop, and Electro that overwhelms you with wonder!
