Skateboarding began among the California surf crowd around the 1950s. 20 years later, new technological advances allowed the skateboarders to develop the dynamic style known as modern skateboarding. The culture spread to the rest of the world, and Denmark caught the skateboard fever in the mid-1970s.
Since then, much has changed. Skateboarding is no longer the obscure and much maligned subculture it once was. Now, it is among the largest youth sports in Denmark, and skateboarding has gone all the way from home made boards and ramps to professional, international recognition. The book Dansk Skateboarding is a journey through four decades in which the culture has grown into an unstoppable force, leaving deep marks on architecture, and shaping the street wear phenomenon.
Dansk Skateboarding contains interviews with Danish skaters like Nicky Guerrero, Anton Juul and Hjalte Halberg. The book covers the entire country, is told in anecdotes, informative captions and hundreds of photos from the mid-1970s to the present day.
