Éric Antoine sees Port Land skatepark as a living space, a playground but also an assemblage of sculptures. He shot the protagonists, the architecture and the surroundings on glass, using the wet collodion process. For this project, 19/80 Éditions with the support of Carhartt WIP gave a particular attention to the photographical technic used by the artist. They worked to reproduce the unique aspect of the wet plates by using a special mix of inks developed for this book, the recipe remaining secret.

A text by Oli Buergin to come with two conversations: Éric Antoine/Richard Gilligan (photographer) & Éric Antoine/Alex Irvine (former editor-in-chief of Kingpin magazine).
Éric Antoine:
Éric Antoine was born in 1974, he lives and works in Hangenbieten, France. Éric Antoine is a self taught photographer who has been exploring the possibilities of analog photography along many years of traveling around the world mostly with skateboarders, documenting his adventures and encounters. After 15 years of work as a renowned European skateboard photographer spent in the chaos of cities and the overwhelmed life of a contemporary citizen, he decided to switch back to something slower and authentic. A life in the country side focusing on his passion: classic photography techniques and mostly “wet plate collodion” photography. Returning to the origins in order to create a new future is a common process. In his case it meant going back to the origins of photography itself by using one of the earliest and purest technique in his now very pictorial artwork. His photographs are now shown in several galleries in EU and USA. Éric is represented by Laurence Esnol Gallery and Joseph Bellows Gallery.
Exhibition:
The Port Land ambrotypes were exposed for the first time in June of 2013 in the construction trailer at Port Land and Scope Basel (international contemporary art show). They are framed with custom made concrete frames by master pool coping maker, Axel “Pudi” Görger.
