For more than 35 years he has shaped the future of electronic music: to savor the art of Detroit native
Juan Atkins could fill an entire book. We make it short: he learnt to play bass, drums, and guitar at an early age. In school, he met
Derrick May and
Kevin Saunderson - a trio that later wrote techno history as
The Belleville Three. In the late 1970s, early 1980s, he starts to produce and DJ. Later he formed with
Richard "3070" Davis the band
Cybotron and they recorded the album
Enter - a milestone in the early evolution of techno music. In 1985 he left the band, began to record as
Model 500, launched his label
Metroplex and released his own music as well as tracks from friends like
Eddie Folkes,
Anthony “Shake” Shakir and his old "The Belleville Three" mates. His first single as Model 500 is called
No UFO's - it turned into a little hit in his hometown and earned him the nickname "Godfather of Techno". Till today Atkins is forming the genre - as Model 500 and through collaborations with artists like his old German friend
Moritz von Oswald. He now comes to Lucerne. He will bring techno history. He will bring music that not many people drop in a club. It will be good to dance along, but surely not kiss ass. Needless to say that this date is indispensable if you love techno and be in town. Juan Atkins rarely plays alone. And rarer in such an intimate situation. Be ready to feel a UFO landing!
