We finally started our 7 hour car ride from Cologne to Dresden at 13:00h with mixed feelings, because the weather forecast looked as shity as possible for an outdoor skateboard event - 3 days of rain. On the way the weather was nice, but when we got close to Dresden, the roads were wet and the sky was grey. Very nice... So we went straight to the little cinema, where the screening of Format Perspective and the Carhartt DDR Tour video had already started. Almost all seats were filled.
After the screenings we went on to the C.Rockefeller Center Center For Contemporary Art, where Jo Hempel`s and Gunnar Nicolaus`exhibition Shins & Cheeks took place. The room was perfect and the guys from the C.Rockefeller Center were nice and friendly. After the vernissage we drove to our swimming beds - an old boat transformed into a youth hostal. All good! Besides sitting in the car for 7 hours, It was a great start into the weekend...
The next morning we had some breakfast and coffee and we were totally happy, because contrary to all expectations the sun was shining. So we packed our stuff and got back on the road and drove to the first spot of the skateboard jam - the Ufa Palast. As soon as we arrived there, the rain set in. First a light rain which turned into heavy rain in no time... But after 30 minutes the rain stopped and there was sun, so the skate spot was good again after some minutes. Meanwhile a lot of skateboarders and spectators arrived and the jam started. After one hour the first jam got stopped by the police after the ambulance had to come for a bleeding head wound. Well...
Everybody went over to the tunnel, the second spot of the jam. Even the guy who injured himself at the first spot was there with a big plaster on his head and a beer in his hand! The session started after the wooden benches were set up.
The third and last spot of the Broiler Jam was the AZ Gap, because the mini ramp opening session got cancelled. Jam 3 started like the first jam ended. The ambulance came again, this time because of a big cut in the hand caused by a skateboard, a small stone and a beer bottle... That was not the best start for the final session, but there was still a lot of motivation to skate the AZ Gap.
The day was rounded up by a party with different styles of live music like Street-Punk, Rock and Electro. The guy who was organizing the Broiler Jam, Christian Petzold, talked me into doing the prize-giving after the live music was over. When that was done, the party was fueled by DJ X1 spinning various forms of music and i was getting tired as hell. It was time for me to go back to the boat.
Then finally Sunday was what the whole weekend was meant to be: A rainy day! Time to leave.
