Detroit born DJ and producer Juan Atkins is the godfather of techno and for him, Düsseldorf is somewhat of a spiritual calling. The city is the home of Kraftwerk, the German electronic pop band that influenced Aktins and his friends Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, also know together as the Belleville Three, profoundly, inspiring them to create electronic music that turned into a global youth culture called techno.
Now, he’ll be coming to the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia to play a club show at Golzheim, a feverish DIY club close to the river Rhine. The boss of the storied Metroplex label will play what he is best at: dynamic techno with a funky edge. He will be accompanied by his old German friend Claus Bachor – a man who stands for raw, dry, bass-heavy techno attacks. Furthermore, Daniel Fritschi of Level Records and the Leipzig based Lockertmatik crew will perform.
We can only hope that the Kraftwerk members also will hear the news and come by to hear what happens to their music, when somebody pics it up and spins it around into another dimension.
