Brief description of the project:
"The construction of the skate park will be realized by a voluntary team of international pro's, tradesmen and skateboarders. In this case, the young people will be involved actively into the building process of the park, in order to train their trade skills and to create "ownership". Though the trade skills, their interest for a job shall be aroused.
After the construction phase, the park will be passed into the hands of the provincial capital San Isidro de El General, the association "Vida Nueva" however will be realizing the management and its operation. The Sports Park is going to serve the open youth work. Within this setting skateboard workshops will be held and committed young people will be educated as skateboard trainers. The trainers are also going to support the young people in other aspects of life and will, together with the responsible staff of "Vida Nueva", serve as mentors and lead workshops that are tailored to the individual problematic situation. The contents of these workshops will involve, among other things, emancipation and gender equality, dealings and preventive measures concerning illness, domestic violence, environment protection and planning operations. In addition to that, the park can be used by the surrounding schools for sports lessons.
Another crucial point of the project is the production of a professional, multilingual documentary film. This is an important part of the public relations and the documentation of the project. In addition to that, it can be used for fundraising to cover consequential costs after the completion of the park, and thus serves the sustainability of the project. In the ca. 90 minute film, local kids and young people will be accompanied, and who will serve as examples for the dynamics and the developments within the youth groups.
The young people will get the possibility to contribute to the recordings, in front of and behind the camera. This will train the handling of film and photo media and at the same time improve the confidence of the involved young people. The film will be screened at film festivals and shall be placed at the disposal of private and public TV stations. Thus, a wide public will get a profound and realistic view into the local situation."
