The best news first: the two day Festival is admission free! The second: the bill is loaded with artists that promisse awesome live entertainment.
During day one local bands such as Giacun Schmid or Kapoolas warm up the festival. When the heat is on the Danish Indierock funsters WhoMadeWho hit the stage to explode with a smile on their lips. Mixing pop and politics he asks me what the use is the British singer Billy Bragg once asked in his Marxian Pop classic Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards - a band that answers this question perfectly is Wir sind Helden - the German quartet that comes to Basel to mix Pop and politics in order to make everyone sing along!
The second day starts again with young but remarkable artists. Songstress Nilsa mixes Hip Hop, Reggae, Soul, and African rhythms. Furthermore Retro Stefson from Island come around to present the formidable Afro-Heavy-Metal-Disco-Dancehall-Pop mix of their second longplayer Kimbabwe. The stars of day two are The Budos Band from New York and Dendemann from Hamburg. The former move you with instrumental Afro Soul. The later with heavy rocking German HipHop full of ironic comments about the world we living in.
Finally one more breaking news: it's said the sun will shine and the temperature will jump up to 27° - we hope the weather god isn't joking!
