His work will therefore be presented at the “visual gallery at photokina“. The exhibition takes place from the 23rd to 28th of September 2008 at the International Photography Fair “Photokina” in Cologne.
“SKATEBOARDING.3D is about space in a phenomenological sense and about skateboarders creating their own construction of reality within these spaces. With the example of skateboarding-culture I bring up for discussion a hybrid space that is somewhere in between virtual and “real” – a “Postvirtual Space”… Therefore I took photographs with more than 20 Carhartt-Team-Skaters around Europe with a unique large-format-3D-camera (8×10in) which has been built especially for this project. The exhibition shows some of them in the ‘real hyper-reality’ of life-sized high resolution 3D-images.”
For about three years Sebastian Denz has been travelling through Europe to shoot a series of 3D Photographs with our teamriders. The result of his work is an amazing series of 3D skate photographs in a quality never seen before. The actual prints that you can see now during the photokina (and at more exhibitions next year) have an impressive size of 2,50m height and 1,25m width, each frame weighs about 50 Kilo! If you’re not gonna make it to the photokina you can watch the entire project in the book SKATEBOARDING.3D, which will be published in 2009 by carhartt under Prestel Publishing.
