Cologne: Love Love with DJ Amir

As one half of the renowned DJ duo Kon & Amir, record collector and reissue label owner Amir Abdullah enjoys legendary status and the highest reputation with people like Lord Finesse and A-Trak. Together with our befriended Cologne based DJs Hulk Hodn, Twit Uno and Memyselfandi, the trio behind the famed Radio Love Love, he will play one of his versatile sets combining funk, hip hop, soul, latin, boogie, and house in a real playful way.

Next autumn Carhartt WIP will launch together with DJ Amir a t-shirt edition that is dedicated to the Detroit based jazz label Strata Records, a short lived record company that has released less than ten albums between 1973 and 1974. Till today all of them have become highly desirable collectibles. During its existence the label became a magnetic center for the Detroit jazz scene in the early seventies as well as a destination for heavyweight musicians like Charles Mingus, Elvin Jones, and Herbie Hancock when they came through town. The records released by Strata embody a wonderfully expansive approach to music making that is truly distinct. Strata’s principles were focused not on commerce but based on artistic freedom – a philosophy that makes the label’s legacy so strong till today.
